Dear Co-op families,
As we all work to take a more active role in the fight against systemic racism in our country, some of you might be wondering how and whether it’s appropriate to include your kids in the conversation.
In short, YES!!
Talk, read, ask them and let them ask you why protests are happening, why people with different color skin are treated differently. These questions and conversations need to happen now!
Don’t be afraid of awkward moments. We need to be brave and have these heart-to-heart talks.
We need to change the world one child at a time!
The Co-op comes from a tradition of anti-bias education, and we care, a lot. We want to offer some support on talking with your kids about racism and anti-racism. The links below may provide some guidance.
This is an important time to remember that we are all teaching and learning all the time, our behavior is teaching children every day. Teach your values with your life.
Live by your values!
Love,
Teachers Maureen, Christie, Dagan & Jaime
